Travelers are enchanted by all of what the Gateway Canyons Resort & Spa has to offer. Situated a stone’s throw from the Colorado-Utah border in Unaweep Canyon – more than 300 miles west of Colorado Springs – the resort definitely occupies a unique location. Though it’s a trek to get here, visitors say both the journey (scenic highways abound) and the destination are completely worth it. Lodgers loved waking up to the canyon’s stunning red rocks and appreciated the myriad of activities offered, both on-site and off (recent guests said hiking and horseback riding are two must-dos). The spa earned praise for its relaxing offerings (though some were disappointed at its small size) and the staff members garnered praised for impeccable service. Accommodations here run large, with standard guest rooms starting at 475 square feet. Rooms are outfitted in colorful southwestern-style decor and feature HDTVs, minifridges and coffeemakers. Some also boast gas fireplaces and patios with built-in fire pits. There are several dining options here as well, with Gateway Canyons offering up five eateries, including the chandelier-clad Entrada, which focuses on Colorado cuisine, and Duesey’s Diner, the resort’s on-site food truck.
